As a space pirate, Vaan takes posession of a mysterious crystal supposed to bring eternal life. He finds himself stuck in Bervenia when he hears of a fantom vessel, which he plans to take over with his companions in arms Kytes and Filo... Together with Llyud, of the the race of Ageyl, our space pirates conduct their sacred stones quest.

The vessel is the nevralgic center of the game and it is equipped with a weapon store. The adventure takes place in space, the characters discover new worlds and are assigned some new missions.

This episode is undeniably the best of the Final Fantasy series. Our heoroes evolve in some unknown places in space, mainly the continent of Lemurians. The many references to the past and familiar episodes, places and characters are unlikely to disturb the first time players.

The gameplay is somewhat simplified, for the best. With a close combat mode and a precision shoot one, the fights are intuitive and less technical than in the previous episodes.
